038 - Victim Advocates Explained: Wendy Medina, KCKPD Victim Services Unit
Show Notes

Today we're talking to Wendy Medina.  Wendy is the Program Supervisor of the Victim Services Unit in the Kansas City Kansas Police Department.  On the organization chart, the Chaplain's Association falls under the VSU, so technically, Wendy is my boss.  But I know her as a compassionate professional who reaches out to the victims of crime, explains to them their rights and resources, and creates a bridge of trust between the victim's family and the police department.

This is part of law enforcement that you may not know much about, so Wendy is going to explain what Victim Services does and how kind of resources and services are afforded to victims of crime.  Make sure you listen as she describes not only the job itself but the type of personal qualities her team has that make them so effective in this kind of work.  She also talks about what an advocate can do to stay emotionally healthy.
