Today I'm talking with Michael Sugrue. Michael wrote a book called Relentless Courage to address the constant barrage of traumatic events experienced by first responders. He's an advocate for more transparency in police culture and he speaks with experience as a California officer who was involved in a fatal shooting, years of investigations, depositions and being sued, and then experiencing a difficult retirement, leaving on bad terms with some of the department leadership.
All of these issues and more contribute to the difficulties first responders have. But talking about them and how to overcome them can make a meaningful impact on how you deal with the hand you were dealt.
