002 - Surviving Injuries & Shootings: Michael Howell
Show Notes

Lots of officers have had various work and sports related injuries and some have been in serious car accidents.  But that question led to the discovery of the extensive list of injuries and traumatic experiences in the line of duty belonging to my guest today, Captain Michael Howell.

Michael is a retired Captain from the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department and also a retired Major from the National Guard.  During his law enforcement career he was put in a coma by a motorcycle accident, had a near fatal electrocution, experienced the death of his sergeant, and was involved in two shootings less than a month apart.  Michael joins us today to share his story and talk about how an officer can overcome traumatic experiences and injuries at work.  Listen for the advice he gives to family members to help an officer who has gone through something traumatic.  And you don't want to miss his first hand account of a deadly confrontation with a potential mass shooter in a Costco store.

Today's episode contains limited descriptions of injuries and traumatic experiences.  Listener discretion is advised.

Music is by Chris Haugen from the YouTube Audio Library and by Winking Fox Music from Pixebay.
