018 - Officer Wellness: Matt Domyancic, Tactical Chaplain
Today I'm talking to Matt Domyancic. Matt was a linebacker and competitive power lifter at the Air Force Academy and Colgate University and was a police officer in Connecticut and the Washington DC area. He was also a Division 1 strength coach at Yale and Georgetown and for the NFL Combine. In law enforcement, he worked patrol, SWAT, and as a full-time police academy instructor and helped with peer support.
Today we start by talking about Matt's law enforcement career, a job he absolutely loved. But he was forced out and medically retired before he wanted to go. Just about everything that could go wrong did go wrong with his health, benefits and workman's comp, his medical expenses, etc. etc. But Matt fought hard to get back to a place physically, emotionally, and spiritually, where he could not only go on with his life, but he could go back to coaching others to be well. Matt volunteers as a chaplain in Los Angeles and helps officer and veterans by encouraging better overall wellness, life balance, mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual self-care before first responders experience a breakdown or a crisis.
